More Efforts to Extend Bridlington Tourism Season

Bridlington residents are likely to see more events happening in the town outside the main tourism season.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council says the efforts to extend the tourism season in Bridlington are having an effect and it will continue to support the creation of events in the shoulder months, both before and after the main summer season.

Destinations Manager - Alex Crutchley - says winter events at Sewerby Hall last year showed what a difference out of season events can make.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council says it's looking to extend the visitor season with events like the Beach 5k run and Soapbox Challenge in September.

Alex Crutchley says the spring and autumn are the obvious places to try and place new events.

The inaugural Bridlington Beach 5k and Fun Run will take place on September 4th. The event will take place entirely on the beach and is restricted to 300 runners.  There will be a Fun Run for children and those who do not wish to run the full 5k.

The event is seen as an exciting new addition to the calendar in the resort, and hopes are high that it will become an annual occasion, arranged initially by the Coastal Services team of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Bridlington Road Runners and the Yorkshire Coast BID.

The event is being held in conjunction with Comic Con being hosted at Bridlington Spa on the same day with runners being encouraged to run dressed as their favourite comic book hero.

Councillor Mike Medini, portfolio holder for cultural and leisure assets at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said :

“This new event will be great for Bridlington, and will undoubtedly help the health and wellbeing of the town’s residents. People will be able to take part just for fun, or perhaps to raise money for charity, and we will also be offering prizes for the best fancy dress as well, especially as the event will coincide with Bridlington Comic Con.

“I am sure that this will prove hugely popular and will become an annual event in Bridlington.”
