After a successful debut last year, Scarborough’s real ice outdoor skating rink will be returning for Christmas 2022.
Bringing active fun to the town’s programme of Christmas events, the ice rink will be open in the town centre on North Street car park daily from Friday 9 December to Tuesday 3 January, 11am to 8pm (last entry at 7pm).
New for this year is a 14 x 14 metre tepee next to the rink, which will feature a bar and roaring fire, perfect for non-skaters to relax while other family members have fun on the ice.
There will also be stalls and attractions including gifts, German sausages, craft chocolates, gin, a children’s carousel and an organ, all decked out with Christmassy lighting.
The rink itself aims to provide a great skating experience for all ages and skill levels with music and lighting.
There will be dedicated facilities for visitors with mobility issues, including wheelchair users, with more information available during the booking process.
For those seeking a peaceful and relaxing skating experience, low-sensory sessions will be held every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 11am. Music will be turned down and flashing lights switched off during these sessions.
Penguin skating aids for children will be available to hire at the time of booking.
Scarborough Borough Council say that information about the wider programme of festive events on the Yorkshire coast will be released soon.
Cllr Jim Grieve, Scarborough Borough Council cabinet member for quality of life said:
“After last year’s inaugural success, we’re delighted to bring the ice rink action back to Scarborough but this time with a much improved festive visitor experience.
“The cosy tepee, Christmas stalls and children’s fairground rides alongside the rink will bring extra merriment for families and friends of all ages to enjoy the countdown to Christmas or celebrate the New Year together.”
Bookings will need to be made in advance online and there will be discounts for Residents of the borough of Scarborough for some sessions. There will also be discounts for schools and community groups such as scouts, cadets and charities.
