Mixed Results for Yorkshire Coast Cricketers

Whitby, Scarborough, Bridlington and Folkton & Flixton were all in cricket action on Saturday.

For Scarborough, it's now back to back defeats in the YPN Premier after a rain-affected loss to Harrogate, at North Marine Road.

Fielding first, things started well for Boro as Guy Emmett and Pat Roberts struck early to reduce the visitors to 15 for 2.

Daniel Robson then left them 38/3. It took an unbroken 72-run seventh wicket partnership to drag the away side to 190/6 from their 50 overs.

Emmett ended with figures of 2/34, with Roberts taking 1/20, Robson 1/15 and a wicket each for Ben Elvidge and Breidyn Schaper.

The rain then reduced Scarborough's overs to 46 but their target fell by just five runs to 186.

A horrific start with the bat saw Boro stagger to 2/3 and 60/7.

A brilliant 104-run partnership by Linden Gray (45) and stand-in skipper Roberts (51) gave the hosts more than a glimmer of hope.

However, they were bowled out with two balls remaining and just six runs short of their target.

Whitby were also left disappointed after a recent upturn in results was halted at home to Normandy Hall.

Choosing to field first, Ricky Hall was the pick of the hosts' bowlers with a miserly 2 for 19 from his ten overs.

The visitors collapsed from 145/4 to 149/7 but managed to still make 235 before being bowled out in 45 overs.

Tom Steyert took 4/79 and Steve Allen 2/48; youngster Kobie Boocock also grabbed a late wicket.

In reply, Whitby started solidly, adding 41 for the opening wicket with Lewis Brearley falling for 19.

Joe Crowther then led the way with 37 but his wicket triggered a home collapse that saw them slip from 99/4 to 129/9.

However, Allen (29) and Boocock (20 not out) bludgeoned 55 for the final wicket, falling 51 runs short but at least giving the Turnbull Ground crowd something to cheer.

In the YPN Championship, Folkton & Flixton's resurgence continues as they made Hull Zingari regret asking them to first.

An early wicket might have made Zingari eyes light up but opener Tom Norman blasted 66 and Harry Walmsley made a majestic 87 as the villagers piled on the runs.

Folkton & Flixton finally finished on 256/7 from their 50 overs with other notable contributions from Will Hutchinson (36) and Jake Hatton (30).

Hull looked good to make a game of it at 71/1 but they fell away as Elliot Hatton took 4/45 and brother Callum picked up 3/36. Walmsley and Charlie Hatton also struck as Zingari were skittled for 204 in the 48th over.

Bridlington picked up a much-needed win in the same division.

Brid put hosts Cottingham in first and took regular wickets.

Casey Rudd led the way with 3 for 18, while Ricky Robinson finished with two wickets for one run in his five overs at the end. Simon Leeson took 2/40 and there was a wicket each for Elliot Traves and Russell Robinson.

In reply Brid faltered, sinking to 33/5 and 82/7 where Rudd, who held the innings together with 56 not out, put on a match-winning 66-run stand with skipper Ricky Robinson (40) and Brid got home with two wickets and more than seven overs to spare.
