Mixed Results for Yorkshire Coast Cricket Sides

There were victories for Bridlington and Whitby on Saturday but defeats for Scarborough and Folkton & Flixton.

Second-bottom Boro must have thought they had a great chance after dismissing hosts and bottom club Malton & Old Malton for 189 in Yorkshire Premier North. Clarke Doughney and Jack Redshaw took three wickets each, with Matthew Turnbull taking 2/26 and Tristin Van Schalkwyk also striking.

In reply, the visitors looked assured at 67/1 only to crumble to 94/8. Redshaw top-scored with 39. Corey Hart smashed 21 from just 11 at number ten but the away side finished 69 runs short after being bowled out for just 120 in the 36th over.

In YPN Championship East, Folkton & Flixton also suffered defeat, with skipper Harry Walmsley left high and dry on 97 not out. He put on 71 for the fourth wicket with Elliot Hatton (40) with the villagers making 238/7 from their 50 overs.

Hosts Goole Town were then indebted to their centurion opener, with just three wickets going down as they reached their target with 14 balls to spare. Connor Stephenson, Jake Hatton and Charlie Colley took the wickets.

There was better news for Bridlington, in the same division, at Duke's Park. Adam Newington was the hero for Brid with 5 for 36 and Steve Janney weighed in with 3 for 14 to help mop up the tail. Visitors Driffield Town Seconds were bowled out for 146 in the 38th over.

Third-placed Brid responded with wicket-keeper-opener Sam Wragg blasting 63 from just 48 balls, including 13 fours. Janney added 27 as Brid made their target in the 32nd over with 4 wickets remaining.

In North Yorkshire South Durham Division One, Whitby returned to winning form in a low-scoring encounter at the Turnbull Ground. Young opener Rhys Buck starred with 68 first up. However, the next highest score was Joel Loyd's 19 as the hosts were bowled out for just 137 in 41 overs.

Opponents Marske looked to be favourites at 46/2 but the evergreen Ricky Hall had other ideas with a masterful 5 for 20. There were two wickets each for Lloyd and Steve Allen. Tom Steyert also struck as Marske were dismissed for 112 in the 40th over.
