Three-quarters of a million pounds in Mayoral Renewable Fund cash has been secured for a solar farm extension near Bridlington.
As part of an announcement of the latest community energy projects to get Great British Energy funding, the Government confirmed the next recipients of the Mayoral Renewable Fund.
Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority (HEYCA) got £700,000 for solar projects in the region from the Mayoral Renewable Fund back in July. In the latest additional funding from the Mayoral Renewable Fund, £750,000 has been awarded for a solar farm in HEYCA’s area.
The LDRS has clarified the bid for this latest funding was organised by East Riding Council. The cash is intended for a solar farm extension and battery storage scheme at South Cliff Holiday Park.
The project is currently in the design phase with the contractor. Planning has been deferred, though is set to get delegated approval. There is a provisional start date for works on site of March.
The scheme is expected to cost almost exactly £1m. It is estimated that on average the solar farm extension and battery storage scheme will save £45,000 a year in energy bills. This works out to just shy of £1.3m energy savings over its lifetime.
The council-run South Cliff Holiday Park first had a £1.8m solar farm installed several years ago. It was to meet 45 per cent of the site’s electricity needs.
The solar farm expansion would involve a 370kWp solar array, consisting of around 800 photovoltaic panels, and associated elements including battery storage. All power generated would be used by the neighbouring South Shore Holiday Village.
The Mayoral Renewable Fund is a scheme which provides Government cash to support local, public-sector renewable energy projects in areas with mayoral strategic authorities. 14 areas of the country are eligible in total, including Hull and East Yorkshire, and Greater Lincolnshire.
