The Mayor of North Yorkshire has outlined ongoing efforts to improve coastal rail services and introduce new walking and cycling projects.
The Mayor of North Yorkshire has spoken about the ongoing opportunities to improve rail connectivity and active travel infrastructure along the Yorkshire Coast.
David Skaith confirmed that local leaders are working to highlight the high demand on coastal rail routes, with a view to securing future enhancements and additional services.
The Mayor noted that demonstrating the current capacity and busyness of the network to the government is a key priority for building on existing transport provisions.
In addition to rail opportunities, the region is set to benefit from alternative transport schemes designed to boost connectivity.
According to the Mayor, a variety of active travel initiatives focusing on walking, wheeling, and cycling are currently in the pipeline for the coastal area.
These upcoming projects are expected to be officially detailed and announced over the next couple of months.
Speaking about the transport plans, Mayor of North Yorkshire David Skaith said:
"That is the first step of that part of the pun journey. We are going to stop it at that those couple extra trades. We are working hard with government to showcase actually how busy that route already is as we know already is and how we can build on that. We've got a lot of walking wheel and cycling projects that are coming into Coast as well, which will be announced over the next couple of months as well."
