Major Rail Upgrades Planned for Yorkshire Wolds Line in February

Network Rail will be carrying out major upgrades to the railway between Beverley and Hunmanby in February.

From Saturday 3 February to Sunday 11 February, engineers will be working in various areas between the two stations as they install new track, renew switches and crossings, the specialist equipment that allows trains to change from one track to another, and carry out work to level crossings.

Network Rail teams will be working in six areas on the line to deliver vital upgrades to the railway for passengers.

The extended programme of work will mean that passengers travelling along the Yorkshire Wolds Line can look forward to smoother, more reliable journeys as they travel by train.

As a result of the upgrades, there will be some changes to train services with some rail replacement services in operation.

Northern services from Hull will terminate at Beverley, where passengers can transfer to rail replacement services serving all stations towards Scarborough. Replacement coach services will operate for passengers travelling in either direction between Scarborough and Beverley.

Passengers are encouraged to check their journey before they travel via National Rail Enquiries or their train operator.

Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail’s North & East route, said:

“This extensive programme of upgrades will be beneficial for our passengers as they travel along the Yorkshire Wolds line. Passengers can look forward to smoother, more reliable journeys as they travel by train between Hull and Scarborough.

“We have deliberately planned to carry out this work in a longer period so that our engineers can work to deliver all the vital upgrades at once, rather than causing multiple periods of disruption. However, we know that this work will be disruptive to passengers and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

“We would encourage all passengers to check how their journey may be affected ahead of travelling via National Rail Enquiries or their train operator. I also want to thank passengers for their patience and understanding throughout this period.”

Kerry Peters, regional director for Northern, said:

“All investment in rail infrastructure is welcome and we ask for our customers patience and understanding while these important works are carried out. Whilst there will be short-term inconvenience, this is about long-term improvements. During this time, customers should ‘check before they travel’ to ensure they’re aware of any impact on their journeys.”
