TransPennine Express say a fire next to the track between Malton and Scarborough means all lines are blocked.
Trains running between these stations may be cancelled or delayed.
The incident was reported juts after 3pm and disruption is expected until 19:00.
National Rail Enquiries say customers can travel on Coast Liner buses between York and Scarborough and replacement road transport has been requested at York and Scarborough.
Some customers have reported being advised to travel on train services from York via Hull, Bridlington and Filey.
