Firefighters continue to battle the Langdale moorland blaze, though it has been contained.
More rain assisted them yesterday though smoke continues to keep a number of roads closed.
Doctor Victoria Turner is a public health consultant.
She discussed the effects of people nearby inhaling that smoke:
" Some of the short term issues that you might see from wildfire smoke include irritation of your airways, of your skin or of your eyes. And this can result in things like coughing and wheezing, possibly breathlessness and chest pain. So whilst the smoke can affect anyone, it's more likely to affect people who've got existing breathing problems.
"And that can include people with lung conditions or heart conditions or smokers, or people who've got, uh, flu-like illnesses, um, and people who are also very young or very old, or also at greater risk from the smoke. So people who have got these kind of pre-existing heart and lung conditions such as asthma are advised to keep their medication or their inhalers with them at all times and seek medical advice if their symptoms get any worse."
Dr Turner also had this advice for people with pre-existing conditions and how they should handle worsening symptoms:
"By contacting NHS 101 or their GP. I think it's important to put some of this advice in context though. So the regular updates that we're receiving from health partners, including the NHS Ambient Ambulance Service, have confirmed that they have not seen any increase in activity due to people being infected by smoke from this wildfire.
"That said, anyone who does experience discomfort such as so rise or cough or so throat, should consider reducing the amount of activity that they're doing particularly outdoors. So they're the key messages that we're putting out through our websites and through other media channels, and then continue to be the key health messages at the moment as well."
Emergency services are expected to be on site for the next week and have reminded the public to follow all signs and diversions.
