Local officers are stepping up patrols in Hornsea following a rise in anti-social behaviour, urging parents to take greater responsibility as formal enforcement measures are introduced.
Residents of Hornsea have reported a noticeable increase in anti-social behaviour (ASB) across the town, prompting the local Neighbourhood Policing Team to heighten their presence. Officers have been conducting proactive patrols in identified hotspot areas to deter disruptions and monitor those engaging in the activities.
As part of a firmer stance against the behaviour, the police have begun issuing ‘Fairways’ letters to individuals identified as being involved in the incidents. According to the Neighbourhood Policing Team, these letters serve as the initial stage in a graduated enforcement process. Failure to curb the behaviour can lead to the escalation of formal measures, including Community Protection Notices (CPNs) or Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs), which carry significant legal consequences, such as heavy fines or potential imprisonment.
In a statement regarding the ongoing situation in the Eastgate area, the Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasised the need for greater community and parental oversight. A spokesperson for the force stated:
We are now aware of further ASB in the Eastgate area of the town. We would positively encourage parents to know where your children are, and what they are doing. We also encourage people to report any ASB affecting your community.
The police are continuing to urge anyone affected by such behaviour to come forward and assist in their ongoing efforts to keep the town’s streets safe.
For those looking to report ongoing issues, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has confirmed that residents can contact the ASB team directly via email at safe.communities@eastriding.gov.uk
