Increase in Users for Online Council Services in North Yorkshire

North Yorkshire County Council says more local people have taken to using it's online services this year rather than it's telephone call centre.

The council is making more of it's services available through it's online portal.

Robert Ling is the council's Assistant Director for Technology, he says the data shows people prefer using online services where they are available.

Over 72,000 digital service requests were made by users of the councils websites in the last year compared to 59,000 the year before. with nearly 36,000 people signing up for accounts on the councils portals last year.

The  move to online portals for services is being done partly in order to reduce pressure on the council's telephone services. The Authority says it has seen a big increase in the number of phone calls it has had to deal with this year as a result of the COVID pandemic.

While a number of new self service portals on the councils website have helped reduce calls in some areas, Robert Ling says the telephony team have still seen an increase in call volumes.
