An East Yorkshire rescue charity has thanked the public after receiving an influx of vital lifesaving equipment through an online wishlist appeal.
Hornsea Inshore Rescue has expressed profound gratitude to the community following an overwhelming response to their recent equipment appeal.
The independent charity, which operates off the East Riding coast, recently set up an online Amazon wishlist to help source essential supplies.
The list of requested items ranged from everyday cleaning products to advanced lifesaving technology, all designed to keep their crews safe and their vessels operational.
Following a public call for support, the organisation has been inundated with donations from generous supporters who purchased items directly from the list.
A spokesperson for Hornsea Inshore Rescue said:
Wow. We've had an absolutely incredible response to our Amazon wishlist appeal and have received some wonderful items including surviver blankets, a personal locator beacon, and even a Go-Pro!
The donated Personal Locator Beacon, valued at over four hundred pounds, is a crucial piece of GPS rescue technology that works globally without a subscription.
Meanwhile, the requested GoPro camera will allow crews to record their launches and rescues for training and operational reviews.
The charity's wishlist provided a unique insight into the vast array of equipment required to maintain an active inshore rescue service.
Among the items requested were three-millimetre neoprene thermal wetsuit gloves, which the charity noted were needed to keep their crew's hands warm whilst on service.
They also appealed for underwater writing slates, describing them as ideal for crew members who need to take notes and record coordinates during wet and windy launches.
The spokesperson for Hornsea Inshore Rescue added:
All these items really are wonderful, and will all assist us hugely whilst saving lives at sea.
Medical supplies formed a significant part of the appeal, highlighting the trauma care the volunteer crews are prepared to administer.
The list included haemostatic gauze, tourniquets, sterile wound dressings, and disposable airway tubes.
Supporters were also asked to purchase red cotton cellular first aid blankets, which the charity uses to warm cold or hypothermic casualties pulled from the North Sea.
To assist with training, the charity also requested a model buoyage set, designed for instructing coastal skippers and powerboat crews, alongside copies of 'A Seaman's Guide to the Rule of the Road' and 'Essentials of Sea Survival'.
Beyond direct lifesaving equipment, the appeal highlighted the ongoing maintenance needs of the station.
Donors could purchase five-litre containers of water-displacement lubricant, which the charity uses after every launch to preserve important machinery.
Other practical requests included a twelve-litre dehumidifier to help dry their lifesaving kit, inflatable boat cleaner to keep their vessel in top condition, and eco-friendly spill control kits.
The operational demands of the charity were further reflected in requests for heavy-duty dry bags to protect sensitive equipment, and a specialised vacuum sealer machine to shield electronics from the harsh marine elements.
Even basic household items like washing-up liquid, antibacterial spray, and cable ties were listed as essential supplies to keep the station running smoothly.
The charity was quick to acknowledge that every single interaction with their appeal made a difference to their operations.
A statement from Hornsea Inshore Rescue concluded:
We are incredibly grateful, a massive thank you to everyone who has bought an item or even just liked and shared the post, every contribution goes a long way to helping us stay afloat and respond when the pagers sound. You're all amazing.
