A new Hippopotamus has been born at Flamingo Land.
The team at Flamingo Land say they are pleased to announce that on the 8th of May 2024, their Hippos Godzilla and Hoover welcomed a female Hippo calf to Flamingo Land.
This is the first Nile Hippopotamus birth in over 20 years at Flamingo Land and the first successful birth in 7 years in the UK.

Flamingo Land say:
"This is such an important birth for both Flamingo Land and the population of Nile hippopotamus as they are listed as a very vulnerable species.
The EAZA - the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria identified Godzilla as the most important female hippo in Europe, so it was vital for her to produce offspring."
The female baby hippo was named Aurora, as she was born the same week the northern lights illuminated the sky across the UK.
The Flamingo Land Team say:
"Aurora has had a rocky start to life, as our keepers and our Veterinary team were concerned that Godzilla was not feeding her.
Our veterinary surgeon and keepers made the decision to take Aurora to a Veterinary hospital in Malton and after a 24-hour stay Aurora was discharged and returned back to Flamingo Land, where our amazing keepers have been providing around-the-clock care for our baby hippo.
Aurora is growing and getting stronger every day, so our keepers hope to mix her in with her Mother again soon!
We hope guests will be able to see our newest baby hippo out and about in her hippo habitat now she is spending some time outside exercising. "
