Hat-Trick for Yorkshire Coast Football Trio

Scarborough Athletic, Whitby Town and Bridlington Town are all celebrating.

Jono Greening's Scarborough side bounced back from a midweek thumping at leaders Buxton, to shock another top-3 side in Bamber Bridge.

The pitch had to pass a morning inspection after heavy rain in the Preston suburb, so it was a heavy surface that met the Seadogs, who chose to play direct football. It paid off as Luca Colville broke the deadlock on the hour. The youngster was at it again, five minutes from time when he deflected in a corner to give the travelling Boro fans a 2-0 win to cheer.

The result puts Greening's men six points from the NPL Premier play-offs, and the former Manchester United midfielder was a happy man afterwards and told Scarborough Athletic TV there was something that made it even harder in the North West:

Whitby Town also bounced back from defeat in style when they defeated Mickleover Sports at the Towbar Express Stadium.

The Blues lost out 1-0, last time out, at home to Nantwich, in the FA Trophy, but there were no such alarms, on Saturday.

Despite suspensions for Jassem Sukar, Marcus Giles and Nathan Dyer, a makeshift Town struck early through ex-Middlesbrough marksman Brad Fewster. Jacob Hazel's free-kick made it 2-0 before half-time, with centre-half Jonny Burns ending the contest with a third on the hour. The Derbyshire visitors pulled one back, but Hazel's second, three minutes from time rendered the away side's injury time follow up a mere consolation. It would have been a hat-trick for the former Scarborough striker who saw a penalty saved earlier in the half.

Sixth-placed Town are now only outside the play-offs on goal difference.

Joint manager Lee Bullock told Whitby Town FC's Media & Communications Officer Liam Ryder his side were proactive:

Further down the coast, Bridlington Town came from behind to claim a second successive victory, in NPL East.

A disputed penalty put visitors Yorkshire Amateur ahead in the first half, before player-manager Brett Agnew levelled, 11 minutes from time.

Brid then went for the win, almost conceding before winning it through Lewis Dennison, with five minutes remaining.

Agnew's men are now four points clear of the division's bottom two.

He told Brid Town TV his team put in a tremendous display:
