The town's rugby club took centre stage as the only side in action on the Yorkshire Coast and they took advantage.
The Maroons hammered Newton Aycliffe 43-6 and saw rivals Gosforth beaten 23-10 by Seaham.
It means only two points keep Whitby off the top of Durham & Northumberland Division Three.
Whitby are at South Shields, next Saturday.
