Whitby Town have moved swiftly to strengthen their management team with the return of former boss Lee Bullock, who has been appointed joint-manager alongside Jason Kennedy for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
The move follows the departure of former manager Gary Liddle to Hartlepool United at the weekend.
Bullock is a familiar and highly respected figure at the Towbar Express Stadium, having enjoyed long spells with the Seasiders both as a player and a manager. His return is seen as a move designed to provide stability and continuity following a period of change behind the scenes.
The former York City midfielder began his playing career with the Minstermen before going on to enjoy a professional career spanning 15 years between 1998 and 2013. During that time, Bullock featured for a number of clubs including Cardiff City, Hartlepool United and Bradford City, earning a reputation as a committed and reliable performer.
He joined Whitby Town in July 2013 and quickly became an influential figure on the pitch, before moving into coaching and management. After serving as Assistant Manager under Chris Hardy, Bullock was appointed joint-manager in 2020 alongside Nathan Haslam. During his time in the role, he oversaw a sustained period of development within the first-team setup and played a key part in shaping the club’s footballing structure.
Bullock stepped down from his position in September 2022, but his association with the club has remained strong. Since leaving Whitby, he has continued to build his managerial experience as part of the successful promotion-winning management team at Redcar Athletic, working alongside Carl Jarrett and David McTiernan. That spell saw Redcar rise through the Northern League and establish themselves at the top of the Pitching In Northern Premier League Division One East.
Now, Bullock returns to Whitby to partner Jason Kennedy, who remains in post as joint-manager following the recent departure of Gary Liddle to Hartlepool United after Saturday’s draw at Hednesford Town. Kennedy’s continued presence is viewed as crucial in maintaining continuity within the squad and ensuring a smooth transition during the latter stages of the season.
Bullock and Kennedy will now share responsibility for leading the Seasiders through the remainder of the campaign, with the pair already familiar with each other and the demands of the role.
Speaking on his return, Bullock said:
"The second the opportunity came around to come back, it was an easy decision. The majority of the lads I know, but even the ones I don’t know personally, I’ve seen enough of when training at the same venue with Redcar.
"I’ll give one hundred per cent for as long as I’m back here. We’ve had some great times before, and we’ll work hard to get good results and make people happy."
Whitby Town say they will now look to build momentum on the pitch under the joint leadership of Bullock and Kennedy, with supporters hopeful that a familiar face can help guide the club forward during an important period of the season.
