Former Whitby Lifeboat at RNLI Bicentenary Celebrations as Crew Feature on National TV

Whitby's RNLI team have been marking the organisations 200th anniversary.

Whitby’s old rowing lifeboat William Riley has been in Westminster today as part of the 200th anniversary celebrations.

Representatives from RNLI stations across the country were at the special service to mark the organisations 200th birthday.

The Whitby station also featured on national TV with Sky News broadcasting from the lifeboat house across the day.

Station Mechanic Richard Dowson spoke live to Kay Burley

The TV news channel also showed a film telling the story of a recent rescue.

This is the Coast was also broadcasting from the lifeboat house and Emma Cassie who featured in that film spoke to Paddy about the rescue last December

The anniversary event at the lifeboat station today included visits from local school children and of-course cake.

Paddy spoke to Whitby RNLI volunteer Ali Brisby about what its like to be a volunteer at the station.

Whitby has a long history with the RNLI which is reflected in the town's Lifeboat Museum where Paddy spoke to Curator Neil Williamson.
