Flamingo Land is said to be interested in extending its operation of Scarborough's Alpamare Water Park for another year
The company initially took over the water park in 2024 after North Yorkshire Council took possession of the site when the previous tenant went into administration.
The original agreement between Flamingo Land and the council was for a 12-month period, with the option to extend for an additional 12 months.
A report presented to council leaders this week said that Flamingo Land has expressed an interest in running Alpamare for another 12 months, something that the council's community development director - Nic Harne - says is easy to implement.
When Flamingo Land reopened the water park last July the firm's chief executive and owner, Gordon Gibb, described the venture as "an exciting new venture" and noted that it is a "big challenge" for the company, but that they are "always up for a challenge".
The water park, located off Burniston Road, includes a wave pool, a splash and play pool, four slides, two outdoor pools, an alpine-themed spa, and a cafe.
Council Leaders have this week backed a "soft market testing exercise" for the redevelopment of Scarborough's North Bay. This includes the Alpamare site.
The council has stated that a key objective for the North Bay is to continue the operation of a water park as one of the long-term attractions in the area. Flamingo Land has expressed an interest in continuing to operate the waterpark for a further 12 months, whilst the council determines its longer-term aspirations for the waterpark and the surrounding area.
