Flamborough RNLI is inviting the community to its July Cake Weekend to view their new lifeboat, 'Forever Yibba', which has already been involved in several rescues.
Flamborough RNLI has taken delivery of a brand new Atlantic 85 lifeboat and is inviting the community to view the vessel during their upcoming July Cake Weekend.
The new lifeboat, officially named 'Forever Yibba' and designated as B959, was delivered on Tuesday the 30th of June. It was greeted with great enthusiasm by a large group of RNLI personnel, volunteer crew members, fundraisers, and friends of the station.
The public will have a chance to see the new lifeboat up close on Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th of July during the station's July Cake Weekend.
A spokesperson for Flamborough Lifeboat Station said:
"Its the July Cake Weekend on Sat 25th & Sun 26th - a chance to see our new Lifeboat "Forever Yibba" which your generous donations has helped to fund- even though this new lifeboat has only been on service less then 3 weeks it has already been involved in several rescues around the Flamborough coastline, Thank You for your Support"
Organisers say there will be a large variety of cakes on offer at the event, alongside hot drinks including soup, tea, and coffee. A donations bucket will be located on the table near the door and the drinks station.
To assist the volunteer team, the station has requested that anyone wishing to take cakes away with them brings their own container.
The arrival of 'Forever Yibba' marks the end of an era for Flamborough RNLI, as the station retired its previous lifeboat, the B820 'Elizabeth Jane Palmer', after nineteen years of dedicated service.
According to the RNLI, a few tears were shed as the retiring boat was loaded onto a low loader transporter to leave the station.
The 'Elizabeth Jane Palmer' first entered service at the station at South Landing on Monday the 13th of August 2007. Her first launch on service came just three days later, on the 16th of August.
During her nineteen years of service on the coast, the B820 was launched on service 486 times. Her most recent and final launch took place on Saturday the 27th of June. Over the course of her operational life, the 'Elizabeth Jane Palmer' was credited with saving an impressive 77 lives.
During the handover event for the new vessel, the station's chaplain, Fr T Wilson, said a few words and officially blessed the new boat.
The donor who funded both the retiring lifeboat and the new 'Forever Yibba', Bill Wraith, also attended the ceremony. He spoke of his lasting friendship with Flamborough RNLI.
Mr Wraith stated that the station had been a great help to him over the years, adding that he was deeply proud that his donations had played a part in saving so many lives at sea.
Flamborough Lifeboat Operations Manager, David Freeman, expressed his sincere gratitude to Mr Wraith for his continued generosity.
David Freeman said:
"Its great for the station to have a new boat, hopefully she will be as successful as her predecessor which has given us an incredible 19 years of service."
