Omicron and the risk of further event restrictions after Christmas have lead to the cancellation of the New Year's Eve Flamborough Fire Festival.
The Flamborough Fire Festival Team say they have had to take the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Flamborough Fire Festival due to concerns over the rise in numbers and spread of the new Omicron Covid19 virus along with the threat of further Government restrictions to outdoor events.
But they are confident that the event will be back next year.
Jane Emmerson, the Fire Festival Organiser said
“We are so very sorry to give such a disappointing announcement but we would like to thank everyone for their fantastic support and interest in the Fire Festival.
The Team are pleased to say the event will return in 2022 with a new, and even more exciting Festival.
I know the Team would like to thank the following for all their magnificent support and kindness over the last few weeks; Members of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (Event Safety & Advisory Group), Residents of Flamborough and surrounding areas, The Festival’s many kind supporters, donors and patrons - many of whom kindly signed our Petition amounting to over one thousand signatures! All those who kindly planned to visit the Fire Festival this year and, of course, our valuable suppliers.
In the meantime, the Team would like to wish everyone a very Happy & Healthy New Year. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2022.”
In November Flamborough Parish Council refused permission for the annual Fire Festival to take place on the village green on New Year's Eve.
The council had received two petitions which requested that the Fire Festival did not go ahead. Councillors also reported that they had received representations from villagers objecting to the Fire Festival for reasons including public safety, problems with parking in and access to the village, the general disruption to local families during the holiday and loud fireworks late at night.
