St. John are looking for new volunteers in Scarborough, Whitby, and the Pickering area known as Coast and Moors.
We're just getting our area up and running again to be able to provide lifesaving first aid training demonstrations and also fundraising events to the local communities.
We're looking for people of all ages, from badges to cadets and also to adults.
The initiative aims to enable St. John to once more provide "life-saving first aid training demonstrations um and also fundraising events to the local communities".
St John Ambulance states they are looking for volunteers of all ages, including Badgers, Cadets, and adults. Within the Coast & Moors area,
SJA is recruiting for several specific roles:
- Community First Aiders who provide event cover,
- Youth Leaders who lead and train children aged 6 to 17,
- and community advocates to assist with fundraising.
James says there are plans are in place for Badgers and Cadet groups and Adult groups to meet in Scarborough and Whitby
"Badgers and cadets would be meeting every Tuesday night either Scarborough or Whitby initially. It's up to them to choose.
And then adults would be also meeting fortnightly in Scarborough or Whitby. Going over general training, first aid things, General safeguard , to then hopefully look at doing events in the near future,"
James says they are always looking for volunteers who are compassionate, dedicated individuals to join their life-saving team which is currently rebuilding from a small base of people
"We've currently got a team of approximately 10 people, these 10 people are just currently doing their first day training to then hopefully we can cover events in the area.
The events would range from local football bonfire nights, music gigs, Thornton-le-Dale Show the Wykeham horse races. We've got a range of things and it's not just in Scarborough and Whitby.
You can go basically anywhere in the country to do events."
St John Ambulance encourages anyone interested in volunteering or who has questions to make contact.
James from St. John can be reached via email at James.Hammond1@sja.org.uk for further information and guidance on the application process. James emphasised that "any questions are welcome and everyone's welcome".
