In Scarborough there were 458 false alarm call outs triggered by automatic alarms last year.
The Fire Service in North Yorkshire says it wants to change the way it responds to automatic fire alarms and may even start charging for calls to automatic alarms.
Dave Winspear is Director of Capabilities at the fire service, he says the automatic systems account for a large number of call outs.
The automatic alarm systems account for around 37% of all call outs.
Currently engines aren't automatically sent to alarms at non-sleeping premises during daytime hours.
The fire service want to extend those hours slightly and as Director of Capabilities - Dave Winspear - explains they want to bring in other changes as well including charges.
The fire service say that in Scarborough there were 458 false alarm call outs triggered by automatic alarms last year up from 398 the year before.
