Fire Crews Tackle Blaze In Wykeham Forest Near Scarborough

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has responded to a fire in Wykeham Forest, near Scarborough.

Emergency services were called to an incident near Scarborough on Wednesday after a fire broke out in a local woodland area.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene in Wykeham Forest, near Sawdon.

Fire crews were first dispatched to the site just after 6am, at lunchtime on Wednesday the Fire Service reported that crews are "still dampening down the fire using tools and Hose Reel Jet to extinguish".

In a further update just after 2pm the fire service added :

"A number of crews are still in attendance and continue to work with Forestry Commission to turn over and damp down fire affected areas."

At just after 3pm fire crews left the site with Forestry England continuing will monitor the site of the fire ahead of a revisit by fire fighters later.

Multiple resources were deployed to help bring the blaze under control, with emergency personnel working to secure the site.

In addition to a number of fire crews responding on the scene, the fire service also dispatched specialist equipment to assist with the operation.

The service confirmed the deployment of specific vehicles to tackle the forest fire.

The North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added:

"A number of fire crews are responding on scene. 1 Argocat and 1 Water Bowser are in attendance."

Members of the public were advised to stay away from the location while emergency responders carried out their duties.

The fire had been hot enough to be detected by NASA's satellite based Fire detection system.
