Filey Hosts Annual Kite Festival

Giant kites will be flying in Filey this weekend as the town's kite festival takes place at the Filey Brigg Country Park.

Dozens of the UK’s best Kite flyers will be attending.

Filey kite flyer, Anne De Sadeleer, is a member of the Northern Kite Group and explains how some of the bigger kites will be flown.

Sharks, Tigers and giant teddy bears are expected to be seen in the skies of Filey this weekend.

Anne De Sadeleer says they will be using special lifter kites to get some of the giant creations airborne.

Filey Kite Festival is free to attend and runs on both Saturday and Sunday (17 and 18 of September 2022) at the Filey Brigg Country Park.

The event has been organised by Scarborough Borough Council in association with the Northern Kite Group, it is expected to attract dozens of the UK’s best Kite flyers, displaying a wide variety of weird and wonderful kites over the Yorkshire coast skies.

There will also be a children’s fairground rides, refreshments will be available from the some traders and the Country Park Café.

The provisional timetable for the days flying is :

  • 09.45 Pilots Safety Meeting at PA Box
  • 10.00 Skytracks- Sue and Ken perform kite ballet to music
  • 10.30 Pallas family flyers- two-line kite display to music
  • 11.00 Nasaman -Keith with his quad line kite
  • 11.30 Team Orion- John Whymark and Johnny Savage
  • 12.00 Teddy Bear Drop (12-13,) (14-16)
  • 12.00 Graham Lockwood-one man three kites
  • 12.30 Skytracks- Sue and Ken perform kite ballet to music
  • 13.00 Rainbow Deltas-chance for children to fly a kite
  • 13.30 Chinese Dragon- owned by Vanessa Potts
  • 14:00 Teddy Bear Drop (14-16)
  • 14:00 Nasaman -Keith with his quad line kite
  • 14.30 Team Orion- John Whymark and Johnny Savage
  • 15.00 Graham Lockwood-one man three kites
  • 15.30 Pallas Family Flyers- kite display to music
  • 16.00 Close

This programme is subject to having suitable wind and weather conditions and may be subject to change.

Parking is available at Filey Country Park, charges will apply.
