A Filey holiday park’s zipwire and green area will be replaced with a multi-use games area following the approval of plans.
The Reighton Sands Holiday Village in Filey is set to construct a multi-use games area (MUGA) surrounded by three-metre-high mesh fencing.
The site is “currently grassed with play equipment including a climbing frame and low-level zipwire,” according to a council report.
The unilluminated MUGA will be 29.3 metres long and 14.3 metres wide.
A council report states that the existing play equipment will be relocated to the western part of the site, with the addition of new swings and a seating area.
Other on-site facilities include a nine- hole golf course, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an entertainment complex and children’s play areas, as well as internal roads and parking areas.
The local parish council had no objections, and no comments were received from members of the public.
However, the council’s ecology officer said that conditions should be added to ensure adherence to biodiversity net gain (BNG) plans.
“The present habitat is of low ecological value, and minor risks to protected and important species can be mitigated via the measures recommended in the report,” the officer said.
The ecology officer stated that the BNG assessment “predicts a 73.6 per cent uplift in terms of habitat units.
“This generously meets requirements while also meeting the BNG ‘trading rules’ – BNG would be delivered on-site via ecological enhancement of grassland.”
Council planners said that as the development is set within and surrounded by the holiday park, it is “not considered to result in additional harm to the visual amenity or character of the immediate area”.
It was noted that the creation of the MUGA will result in an increase in hardstanding and “the intention is that surface water would be drained to a soakaway, however, no details have been submitted to demonstrate that soakaways work in this location”.
Planners concluded it was necessary to add a condition requiring the submission of further details of surface water disposal methods before the development can start.
