Filey Golf Club is taking a further major step towards sustainability, announcing that it has successfully secured a 60% grant to support the installation of new solar panels across its facilities.
The funding, worth up to £26k is provided through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund administered locally by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, will significantly reduce the club’s energy costs and environmental footprint.
The solar project is part of the club’s long-term strategy to improve energy efficiency and promote environmental stewardship within the local community.
It adds to the installation of a Wind Turbine last year.
Finance Chair Mike Cockerill said:
“We’re thrilled to receive this support, this grant enables us to continue with our investment in clean energy.
It’s not only about reducing our carbon footprint — it’s about ensuring the club’s sustainability for future generations.”
The solar installation, expected to be completed by early next year, will provide additional renewable energy to power key areas of the club, including the clubhouse, maintenance sheds, and course irrigation systems.
Once operational, the system is projected to offset more of the club’s annual electricity usage, reducing both emissions and operating costs.
This initiative aligns with Filey Golf Club’s commitment to environmental responsibility, complementing previous sustainability efforts such the Wind Turbine and new electric golf buggies.
