Filey Golf Club say they've taken another significant step towards a more sustainable future.
It's after the successful installation of solar panels at the club, supported through a Business Sustainability Grant administered by the York & North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
The new solar photovoltaic (PV) system will help reduce the club’s carbon footprint while lowering long-term energy costs, supporting both environmental responsibility and financial resilience. The installation aligns with Filey Golf Club’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and responsible stewardship of its facilities.
As part of the project, the Club’s lighting and heating systems are being updated. The Club’s entire lighting system is seeing an upgrade to LED with the heating system enhanced so that each radiator is independently controllable, significantly improving energy efficiency.
Thanks to the grant aid, other projects, including the provision of robot mowers, will be delivered with reduced financial impact on the club, enabling investment in renewable energy that might otherwise have been out of reach. The new system, together with the successful Wind Turbine project, is expected to generate a substantial proportion of the club’s electricity demand, particularly during peak daylight hours.
Any excess energy will be stored in batteries or exported to the National Grid.
A spokesperson for Filey Golf Club said:
“We are delighted to have completed this project and are extremely grateful for the grant support that made it possible. Installing solar panels is an important step in reducing our environmental impact while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the club for our members and the wider community.”
The solar installation forms part of a broader effort by Filey Golf Club to adopt more energy-efficient practices and contribute positively to local and national climate goals.
