The family of a forty-nine-year-old man who died following an incident at a pub in Whitby have released a heartbreaking tribute as police continue their investigation.
North Yorkshire Police have formally named a man who died following an incident in Whitby town centre earlier this month.
Jason Smith, aged forty-nine, sadly died from injuries he sustained during an incident on Flowergate.
The incident took place at The Elsinore Pub in the town at 11.12 pm on Sunday the 15th of March.
Officers confirmed that Mr Smith was originally from Hull but was living in Halifax at the time of his death.
His family have now issued a heartfelt tribute to him as the police investigation continues.
In a tribute, Jason's family said:
"On the evening of Sunday 15th March, a dearly loved son, brother, fiancé, uncle, cousin and friend was taken away from us all in devastating circumstances.
The loss of Jason has left such a huge void in all our lives that cannot ever be replaced.
He will continue to live on in our hearts and memories as the kind, loving, generous, hardworking and larger than life character that he was.
Jason will be greatly missed by so many every day and for the rest of our lives. We are all forever heartbroken."
The family of Mr Smith have asked that their privacy be respected during this difficult time, and that they be allowed the space to grieve in peace.
North Yorkshire Police have provided an update on the progress of their enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the death.
Officers confirmed that four men were previously arrested in connection with the investigation.
The force stated that all four individuals have since been released on conditional bail.
The Major Investigation Team is continuing to investigate the incident.
Detectives are now appealing directly to anyone who was in the pub at the time and has not yet spoken to officers to come forward.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:
