Plans to build a new emergency department at Scarborough Hospital have been boosted by an additional seven million pounds of funding.
Simon Cox is Executive Programme Director for the East Coast Service Review.
He's leading a programme of works which aims to deliver significant transformations to health care services along the Yorkshire Coast following the recent review of the healthcare system on the coast.
Health bosses say the project will "deliver a step change in services while helping ensure that NHS resources are used where they can have the most impact for local people."
Simon says the final business cases are being prepared for what is now a £47m pound project.
It's hoped work on the building can start later this year to develop the new emergency and clinical care department which will have roughly double the clinical space of the existing facility.
Simon Cox says it will make a massive difference to the hospital and help support the sites longer term sustainability.
It's hoped the business plans will be completed by the summer with work starting later this year and an opening date of late 2023.
