A new early morning bus has been added to a route in Scarborough to help Hospital Staff get to work.
East Yorkshire Buses are working in partnership with York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, to free bus travel for NHS Foundation Trust and Facilities Management employees on the Scarborough Locals Service 10.
From 1 June 2023 until 31 August 2023, staff are able to use Service 10 for free to travel to and from work every day of the week.
As part of the trial scheme the company has added an extra trip to the timetable from St Thomas Street at 08:01 to Scarborough Hospital arriving at 08:16.
The trail scheme is being funded by the York and Scarborough NHS Trust. Staff just have to show their trust ID badge to the bus driver.
A spokesperson for the Hospital trust said:
"We know that getting to and from work is a big issue for our staff. In recent years - and particularly as we come out of the pandemic - congestion around our sites has increased and is a cause of much stress and frustration, not only for our staff but for patients and visitors as well.
“As part of our investment in alternative travel options for staff, from June we are funding a pilot scheme to provide free bus travel for staff to and from work in Scarborough and York.
"We will be monitoring take up of the offer throughout the three-month pilot to determine sustainability of the scheme, which we hope can be continued for the future.”
