The Education Secretary has congratulated three Yorkshire Coast schools after they were recognised as being among the best in the country for helping disadvantaged pupils achieve exceptional outcomes.
She praised staff and pupils at Scarborough UTC, Airy Hill Primary School and St Martin’s Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary School for their “excellent work” following the release of figures placing them in the top 25 percent of achievers nationally.
As well as being commended by Ms Hume, who recently visited Airy Hill in Whitby, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has also contacted the headteacher there and her counterparts in Scarborough to pass on her thanks and encourage them to share ideas across the RISE programme.
Ms Hume said:
“I want to congratulate Scarborough UTC, Airy Hill and St Martin’s on deservedly being recognised for their work towards becoming models of excellence in this field.
“Their success shows what can be delivered when people work together.”
“This recognition demonstrates all the hard work and dedication made by these schools to giving children, no matter their background, the best start in life and breaking down barriers to opportunity.”
Ms Phillipson said:
“It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together.
“These schools demonstrate what is possible, and I look forward to working with the team as we strive together to raise standards for all.”
