It's the return of the annual charity walk that started as a bet in 1959
Scalby is playing host to a charity walk on Easter Monday.
The annual fundraiser has been running since 1959, starting out as a local bet and becoming a regular feature on the Scalby calendar.
Michael Whiteley is one of those behind the walk he says they are expecting a large number of walkers.
The seven mile walk which starts and ends in Scalby is hoping to raise £2000 for Super Brad's Pad, the holiday home for children with life limiting conditions being built near Scalby Manor by the Bradley Lowery Foundation.
Over one hundred walkers are expected for the event which is in it's 61st year.
Michael says some people will try to complete the walk in the fastest time possible while others will take a more leisurely approach.
A half pint (lager, bitter, or squash) must be drunk in each of the pubs on route (your drink is included in the entrance fee) in the following order:
- The Three Jolly Sailors, Burniston
- The Red Lion, Cloughton
- The Blacksmiths Arms, Cloughton
- The Oak Wheel, Burniston
Trophies can be won for the first person back (male, female & oldest) and the fastest walker (male, female & oldest), but disqualification looms if you don’t drink the half pints at each stop, or if you are caught running! Prize giving is at 4.00 pm.
A family-friendly route is available which uses the Cinder Track route from the Oak Wheel, and avoids the section of the coastal road where the traffic can be busier.
Many walkers take part in fancy dress, which is optional, and prizes can be won for the best fancy dress and it all adds to the fun of the occasion.
The walk is on Easter Monday 18th April. Starting at 10.30am.
Registration is from 9.30am at the Plough in Scalby. You can enter online at scalbyfair.org.uk - entry forms in the pubs too
