East Yorkshire Care Services "Haemorrhaging Staff "

Care services in the East Riding of Yorkshire are "at a crisis point" according to council Leader Jonathan Owen.

The Council says it is facing a staffing crisis in it's social care services.

Council Leader, Jonathan Owen says they are having to compete with other sectors for workers and pay is the problem.

East Riding councillors have backed calls for immediate government action on the staffing “crisis” in social care and reversing cuts to Universal Credit.

Council Leader Jonathan Owen says pay is the issue with care staff getting high paid and less taxing jobs in retail and hospitality.

Councillor Owen says the financial cost of competing for staff would be high.

The staffing crisis is causing a number of issues for social care services in the East riding, Councillor Owen says the council is unable to deliver some services as well as they would like.
