A local person who became stranded halfway down a cliff at Pigeon Hole in Flamborough while trying to retrieve a dropped bag has been rescued by a Coastguard helicopter.
A dramatic emergency rescue operation unfolded on the 29th of May at Pigeon Hole in Flamborough, after a local person became trapped halfway down the sheer cliff face.
The individual had attempted a dangerous descent down the rocks in an effort to retrieve a bag that had accidentally fallen over the edge.
However, the person quickly found themselves unable to climb back up to safety, leaving them stranded on a narrow and precarious ledge situated directly above the sea.
Emergency services were alerted to the situation, and the Bridlington and Filey Coastguard Rescue Teams were swiftly tasked to the scene following reports of a person trapped on the cliffs.

Upon arrival at Pigeon Hole, the rescue teams located the stranded local resident and began assessing the safest way to bring them back to the top of the cliff.
After a thorough evaluation of the scene, the Officer in Charge determined that the casualty's location was far too dangerous to attempt a conventional cliff rope rescue.
Recognising the severity of the situation and the precarious nature of the ledge, an urgent request was immediately made for the assistance of the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter.
As the casualty waited anxiously on the cliff edge for aerial support to arrive, the Coastguard teams on the ground remained in constant contact with them.
The emergency responders offered vital reassurance to the stranded individual throughout the terrifying ordeal until the helicopter finally appeared into view overhead.
In a dramatic winch operation, the crew of the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter successfully lifted the casualty from the cliff face, hoisting them up and away from the dangerous drop.

The helicopter then safely transported the individual to a nearby landing site, which had been prepared in advance by the Coastguard Rescue Teams on the ground.
Thankfully, despite the frightening nature of the incident, the casualty escaped the ordeal without any injuries, although they were left understandably shaken and embarrassed by the events.
Following the successful rescue, the Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team issued a firm safety warning to the public regarding the severe risks associated with the coastline.
A spokesperson for the Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team said:
"This incident serves as a stark reminder that no matter how familiar you think you are with the cliffs, attempting to climb down is incredibly dangerous and can put not only your own life at risk, but also the lives of Coastguard teams and helicopter crews who may have to rescue you."
The spokesperson added a vital reminder for anyone visiting the coast, saying:
"If you ever see someone in danger along the coast, dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
