Hornsea Inshore Rescue Saves Woman and Her Four Dogs
Hornsea Inshore Rescue was called into action by HM Coastguard Bridlington on Tuesday afternoon, to assist a woman who had become stranded by the tide at Mappleton. The incident, which unfolded shortly after 3:30 PM, required a swift response from the rescue team.
The crew acted quickly, preparing their boat and launching towards the distressed individual’s location. A subsequent update from HM Coastguard revealed that the woman was accompanied by her four dogs, adding urgency to the situation.
Upon reaching the scene, the rescue team found the woman waist-deep in water. A spokesperson from Hornsea Inshore Rescue described the operation as “fast, safe and effective.” Once onboard, a thorough assessment was conducted. Despite being cold and wet, all five casualties—including the woman and her dogs—were found to be in good health and uninjured.
The rescued individuals were transported back to the boathouse, where they were welcomed by the shore crew. The team ensured that the woman and her dogs were dried and warmed, with the dogs receiving plenty of affection, including “lots of tummy rubs and fusses from the crew.”
The incident highlighted the importance of being aware of tide times. The woman had checked the timings but unfortunately misinterpreted them, a common mistake that can lead to dangerous situations. The spokesperson emphasised the importance of calling for assistance, stating, “She did the right thing calling 999 for assistance.”
The operation was led by Coxswain James Kennedy, with crew members Noah Topliss and Rob Carthew, and Launch Master Carl Handley overseeing the launch.
This successful rescue serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of coastal environments and the vital role of local rescue services like https://www.hornsearescue.org.uk/ in ensuring public safety.
