North Yorkshire Police have offered advice on avoiding various scams being operated in the area.
Crime in Whitby has fallen during the latest lockdown but fraud has increased.
PCSO Rowley from North Yorkshire Police says much of their work has been around enforcing the COVID regulations but also dealing with an increasing number of scams.
"The main issue that we seem to be having is the fraud.", he said."We've been getting numerous phone calls from members of the public claiming to have had recorded phone calls from people claiming to be from Amazon Prime, HMRC. They're getting reports of a parcel being delivered and being asked to push buttons on their phones."
There's more information on common scams and how to deal with them on the North Yorkshire Police website.
PCSO Rowley added that the number of people visiting the town at weekends has been increasing over the last few weeks, despite the continuing lockdown.
The officer said some people have travelled a long way:
"The last few weeks, we've been on patrol for Covid, for the breaches, and over the weekend we did another six in the town", he said.
"They seem to be just coming here to enjoy themselves from as far afield as Manchester.
"We have had large groups of students coming over, hiring minibuses, coming to take pictures of the Abbey.
"Not everyone we stop gets a ticket, it depends on the circumstances."
