Business forced to close by lockdown and individuals told to self isolate could be able to claim Government backed grants from the Borough Council.
Businesses in the Scarborough Borough which have been forced to close because of the national lockdown restrictions are being encouraged to check if they can get a grant from the council.
Nick Edwards is a Director at the Borough Council
600 local restrictions support grants have been paid out to local businesses so far
Grants under this scheme are available to businesses that:
- Are based in Scarborough borough
- Are rated and assessed for Non-Domestic Rates (business rates) purposes – you will need your business rates account reference to apply
- Were operating prior to the restrictions being imposed
- Have been ordered to stop operating by the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 or are operating in a substantively reduced way due to restrictions (such as restaurants or pubs running take-away services or shops running click & collect)
There is more information about the Local Restrictions Support Grant on the Scarborough Borough Council Website.
Mr Edwards says there are also payments available for individuals who cant work because they have been told to self isolate.
To be eligible for the Test and Trace Support Payment, you must:
- have been asked to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace either because you’ve tested positive for coronavirus or have recently been in close contact with someone who has tested positive
- be employed or self-employed
- be unable to work from home and will lose income as a result
- be currently receiving one of the following benefits: Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, Income Support, Housing Benefit, Pension Credit
You will not be eligible for the payment if you are only self-isolating for the purposes of quarantining after a trip abroad.
You will not be eligible for a payment if your income is lower than normal because you are furloughed. The payment is for people facing a reduction in income because they cannot work while self-isolating.
