Money allocated to regeneration schemes in the Scarborough Borough may be under threat.
That's the concern of Borough Council Leader, Steve Siddons.
Councillor Siddons says he got a letter from the county council last week saying that no new major project spending will be approved before the borough council is abolished in April.
Steve Siddons says he is concerned about another aspect of the letter.
Councillor Siddons says he's concerned that comments in the letter received from the county council about a financial shortfall, could mean money being redirected from local projects once the borough council is abolished.
The borough is set to hand on around 1£15m to the new county wide authority in April, with £7m of that allocated to local projects
Councillor Andrew Backhouse is also concerned.
Steve Siddons says he is concerned that decisions made after April could see Scarborough Borough funds reallocated.
The Borough Council will be replaced in April by the new North Yorkshire Council.
As part of the transition arrangements any contracts worth over a million pounds have to be approved by the county council.
Borough Council leader - Steve Siddons - says he's now also been told no new monies will be approved.
The letter states it has
“been determined that no new section 24 requests will be considered, unless it is exceptionally urgent spend which endangers normal service delivery….”
Nevertheless it adds:
“This does not mean that those schemes are rejected, merely that they are subjected to full consideration by the new North Yorkshire Council from April 1 onwards. Those that have already been submitted will be considered in due course.”
