North Yorkshire Council has issued a warning to motorists who are ignoring road closure signs on Stepney Road in Scarborough.
The council says that drivers ignoring the signs are putting themselves and others at risk.
In a post on social media the council said that it is receiving reports of drivers disregarding the closure on the westbound lane between Park Avenue and Sandybed Lane, despite the presence of a signed diversion and says "This behaviour is not only dangerous but also illegal."
The lane closure, which is in effect from 30th September to 20th October 2024, is necessary to ensure a safe working space for essential highway maintenance, including footway resurfacing.
The eastbound lane will remain open during this period. The road closure is in place 24 hours a day. Motorists are urged to use the designated diversion route.
