Competitive Football Returns to the Yorkshire Coast for the New Season

Local football clubs are gearing up for the start of the new season this weekend, with Scarborough Athletic returning home after a year in exile and Bridlington Town beginning their FA Cup campaign.

Competitive football will return to the Yorkshire Coast this weekend as local clubs kick off their new campaigns.

Fans will see Scarborough Athletic back on home turf, while Bridlington Town and Whitby Town face away fixtures to start their respective seasons.

National League North action will resume at the Scarborough Sports Village on Saturday, August 8th, with a 3pm kick-off. A bumper crowd is expected to watch Scarborough Athletic take on South Shields.

The fixture marks the first competitive game back at the Scarborough Sports Village after the club spent a year in exile.

The visiting side, South Shields, will provide a stern test for the Seadogs. The opposition spent large spells of the previous season in top spot but ultimately missed out on promotion, losing the title race to AFC Fylde.

Club officials say everyone is welcome to join them to experience the return of competitive football to the town, describing it as a fixture not to miss.

Meanwhile, Emirates FA Cup action will begin for Bridlington Town Football Club. The team will travel to Cumbria this weekend for their first competitive game of the season against Penrith FC.

A spokesperson for Bridlington Town Football Club shared their excitement ahead of the match.

"The wait is over—our first competitive game of the season is here! We head to Cumbria this weekend to kick off our The Emirates FA Cup campaign against @penrithfc, and we can't wait to get started!"

League action will also get underway for Whitby Town. The club will start their league campaign on the road with an away fixture against Leek Town.

There will be commentary from the Scarborough and Whitby games on This is the Coast Extra
