Coastliner has announced plans to introduce additional services this summer to popular coastal destinations including Scarborough and Whitby
The move, intended to provide more seats more frequently, comes in anticipation of increased demand from individuals choosing to travel by bus to seaside attractions.
The additional journeys are scheduled to operate throughout the school summer holidays, commencing Sunday, 20 July, and continuing until Saturday, 30 August. This initiative aims to add hundreds of extra seats across two key routes: Coastliner route 840, which serves Whitby, and route 843, which serves Scarborough.
Adam Emmott, Coastliner General Manager, stated,
"We want to help make sure our customers can reach the coast as easily as possible,". He also noted that with the Government's recent announcement extending the £3 fare cap until March 2027, Coastliner is "looking forward to welcoming more customers onto our buses this summer". Mr. Emmott further commented that "Adding extra buses and drivers into the network will help us to deliver a more reliable service along our routes to the coast, while making sure we can carry our customers in comfort at this busiest time of the year,".
Specific additional services for route 843, serving Scarborough, include an 8:35 am Monday to Friday journey from Leeds to York that will be extended to Scarborough. An additional 4:55 pm service will also run from Scarborough to York and Leeds on these weekdays. On Saturdays, an 8:40 am journey from Leeds to York will also be extended to Scarborough, complemented by an additional 4:55 pm service from Scarborough to York and Leeds.
For route 840, offering services to Whitby, an additional Sunday journey will see the 9:23 am York to Whitby service begin earlier, departing from Leeds at 8:10 am. This change is designed to facilitate summer Sunday day trips from Leeds to Whitby. Customers from Leeds returning from Whitby on a Sunday can take the 5:36 pm Coastliner 840 bus to York Station and connect to a Coastliner 843 bus for Leeds. All additional services will stop at regular Coastliner bus stops.
In addition to the service enhancements, Coastliner has introduced a new 'Scenic Explorer' ticket deal, offering three consecutive days of unlimited travel anywhere on Coastliner services and other bus routes along the coast. These routes extend from Bridlington and Filey to as far as Saltburn, Redcar, and Middlesbrough.
