A section of the A171 was closed on Wednesday after a collision.
Officers from Scarborough reported they attended a road traffic collision which resulted in a section of the A171 between Whitby and Scarborough being closed.
They said:
"If you are travelling out of Whitby, we are asking you to divert through Ruswarp and out via the B1416.
Likewise, if you are coming towards Whitby from the Scarborough side, you will be diverted up the B1416 towards Ruswarp.
The RTC has occurred near to the junction of of the A171 with the road to Fylingthorpe. This section of road is also closed. If you are wanting to leave the Robin Hoods Bay and Fylingthorpe area, please divert out via the Hawsker direction.
We are working with other emergency services and thank you in advance for your understanding and assistance."
Officers at the scene anticipated the road to be reopened between 1630 and 1645.
