Christmas Hamper Appeal Launched in Scarborough

Brunswick and the Salvation Army join up asking shoppers to give the gift of kindness this Christmas to help struggling local families.

Brunswick customers are being urged to step up this festive season and support an appeal by the shopping centre and Scarborough's Salvation Army to help supply over 200 festive food hampers to local families most in need this Christmas.

The town's Salvation Army has already provided food to over 2000 people across Scarborough since it began its food service and regularly reaches out to 1,000 people across the local community across all of the services they provide.

Major Stephen Noble from Scarborough Citadel Salvation Army,

“The COVID 19 situation continues to be a major issue within the community of Scarborough. This new reality is driving unprecedented demand for the provision of food through our food bank facility. Each week, we encounter more and more families who are unable to make ends meet, as well as children who are not getting fed at home and who are at high risk during the current crisis."

As the economic uncertainty remains, Brunswick say they wanted to "create a focus to raise funds for the local Salvation Army so they can provide some comfort to those local families within the local community for who Christmas may not be a time of great happiness and joy".

Sue Anderson - Brown, centre manager at Brunswick, commented,

“We take our position at the heart of the local community very seriously. We know this is a difficult time for many families struggling due to the pandemic. We are also very aware of the pressure that the upcoming festive season can put on household budgets. So as part of our ongoing partnership with The Salvation Army food bank service, we wanted to be able to step in and help. Our shoppers have already donated hundreds of pounds and large amounts of groceries through our summertime appeal and our in centre donation stations so I am confident that their generosity will continue and we can meet our 200 hamper target."

A specially created Just Giving page at justgiving.com/fundraising/brunswick-scarborough. has been created to accept donations.

Now the Centre has come out of lockdown restrictions, Brunswick aims to drive donations through in-mall display, a shout out to its customers via its website and social media channels and by asking its shoppers to make donations for some its FREE Christmas activities, including the Centre's first-ever Santa's Grotto.
