A Yorkshire children's charity has expanded its support for vulnerable families by launching a new, specially adapted holiday home in Primrose Valley, Filey, aimed at reducing travel barriers for those in need of a coastal break.
The Principle Trust Children’s Charity has announced the opening of its third fully accessible respite holiday home, situated at the Haven Holiday Park in Primrose Valley, Filey. The launch marks a significant milestone in the charity's ongoing mission to support vulnerable families across the region.
According to the organisation, the property has been specifically designed and adapted to cater to adults and children with physical disabilities and complex medical conditions, providing a much-needed, safe retreat on the Yorkshire Coast.
The charity stated that the accommodation sleeps up to four guests across two twin bedrooms. To ensure full accessibility, the home features wheelchair ramp access, wider doorways, sliding doors, a fully adapted wet room, and a ceiling-mounted bed trapeze in the principal bedroom.
Feedback provided to the charity has consistently highlighted that travel expenses and long journeys often prevent low-income families from taking restorative breaks. By locating the new property in Filey, the organisation hopes to cut journey times and reduce costs for families travelling from East and South Yorkshire. Furthermore, the charity noted that it intends to use this Yorkshire Coast base to build stronger ties with regional referral organisations, ensuring that respite breaks reach those who need them most.
Representatives for the charity explained that Primrose Valley was selected for its combination of natural coastal beauty and family-friendly amenities. The site offers on-site entertainment, leisure activities, and direct path access to the beach, providing a relaxing environment where families can unwind and create lasting memories by the sea.
Founded in 2011 by Mike Davies MBE, The Principle Trust Children’s Charity reports that it has provided holidays for nearly 6,000 children since its inception. The organisation now owns eight respite homes across Filey, Blackpool, and the Lake District, which it says allows it to support approximately 308 vulnerable children and their families annually with life-changing breaks.
Mike Davies MBE, Founder of The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, said:
“This opening is a hugely proud moment for the charity as we celebrate our 15th anniversary. We know that families caring for children with complex needs face enormous daily pressures, and something as simple as a holiday can feel completely out of reach. This new home means more families across Yorkshire can experience precious time together, rest, and make happy memories in a safe and supportive environment.”
