A ten-year-old Scarborough boy is cycling 46 miles to Whitby and back to raise money for local homeless people and refugees, on Saturday.
Big Maya's Jerk are hosting two Christmas dinners in Scarborough and Eastfield for people who are homeless, lonely or otherwise in need of community and connection on Christmas Day.
Scarborough Friends of Refugees are a group of residents who support people who are seeking asylum locally.
Casper Hunter's hoping to support both and buy Christmas gifts for adults and children.
Here's why he decided to take on the challenge:
"Me and my dad were thinking of ways to raise money for these causes. Yeah, we just stumbled upon this idea of doing a sponsored cycle ride. We go on the Cinder Track quite a lot. This is for asylum seekers, refugees, and homeless people in Scarborough, and I'm raising money for the hot meal and yeah, shelter maybe for them."
Dad Jack is joining him:
" Casper's a super-keen cyclist. We cycle a lot. But we've never gone all the way to Whitby and this was a nice opportunity to do that.
"It's Christmas and we are trying to raise money for some of those people locally who are in the greatest need. So you've got people who are homeless, people who need a bit of connection. There's a fantastic local organisation who are running a Christmas dinner for those people, bringing people together, which is just fantastic. Also there's an informal network of people who are supporting refugees and asylum seekers. People who really don't have a lot at the moment and being able to raise a bit of money to give them some gifts, which will help out a little bit, is obviously a really great thing to do anytime, but especially at Christmas."
