Call for Better Direct Train Service Between Scarborough and Leeds

Services to more northern cities could arrive when a half hourly service from Scarborough is introduced.

Scarborough needs better train services to Leeds and Manchester if it's to benefit from hybrid and home working.

That's the view of Scarborough Councillor Subash Sharma.

He thinks there is too much talk about connectivity with York and more focus should be put on connections to other northern cities.

North Yorkshire's transport bosses say that better direct train service between Scarborough and Leeds are being worked on.

Graham North is North Yorkshire Council's Policy Support Officer for Rail, he says plans to introduce a half hourly service from Scarborough to York could actually lead to better onward services.

We reported last week how a half hourly train service between Scarborough and York is still being worked on and could be introduced with the winter timetable.

North Yorkshire County Council says discussions with the train operators are focused on introducing the service initially on Friday's, Saturdays and Mondays.
