Fire officers were kept busy by a number of call-outs on the Yorkshire Coast, on Saturday, including incidents in Scarborough and Filey.
Just after 5pm, on Thorpe Lane, Robin Hoods Bay, there was a report of popping sounds at the road side, moving the road surface, which was possibly an underground fire. This was found to be a false alarm with the ‘moving road surface’ attributed to road damage caused by traffic at the road edges and the popping sounds coming from shotguns being used in nearby fields.
Then at 5.45pm, on Stoney Haggs Lane in Scarborough, Scarborough crew gained entry back into the premises of an elderly occupant who had become locked out with cooking on within.
Within half an hour, on Westborough, Scarborough, the same officers released one adult male from being stuck in a lift in a shopping centre by accessing the lift power room.
Just before 9pm, in Filey, Scarborough officers responded to the owner of a motorhome who had concerns over the leisure battery which he had removed and put into his garden and had started bubbling. Firecrew used a thermal camera and gave advice to the owner with no further action required.
Finally, between 1.30 and 2am, on Station Close, West Ayton, the Scarborough crew responded to a Police request to assist them in releasing 4 male youths locked in a derelict building. They used a ladder to rescue them.
