The Seasiders will host Worksop Town tonight, 72 hours after exiting the FA Cup.
It was Dunston who defeated Bridlington on Saturday in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup, coming out comfortable 3-0 victors. Whilst still unbeaten in the league, manager Mike Thompson will be eager to see a response from his players following their first loss of the season. His team were struggling for numbers on Saturday, and although right-back Benn Lewis should be back available, he will be without midfielder Jack Griffin, who will begin to serve his three-game suspension following his red card last Tuesday against Lincoln United. Wingers Jack Yates and Harvey Carew are both likely to be missing through injury, with Harry Webster and Will Taylor also unavailable.
It is unknown what to expect from the hosts, as they put in a stunning display in their 3-1 away win against Lincoln United, despite being reduced to 10 men for over 50 minutes. However, the following fixture saw Dunston breeze past them easily. Moreover, the formation Thompson opts for will be hard to predict for the Bridlington faithful. Throughout pre-season, the team set up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, which is how they lined up for the first three games of the season. Despite this, the manager decided to switch to a 3-5-2 last time out due to squad availability, though he reverted back to the 4-2-3-1 for the 2nd half.
As for Worksop, they haven’t started their league season strongly, having only played one match away against Stockton Town, which ended in a 2-1 defeat. They did, however, progress in the FA Cup, having beaten AFC Mansfield of the league below 3-0 in the Preliminary Round. Striker Liam Hardy netted his first 2 goals of the season in that game, making him the club’s current top scorer, so he will be the man the Bridlington defence will need to look out for, along with former Bradford City target man James Hanson. The visitors also have players with National League experience in their squad, with defender and captain Hamza Bencherif as well as midfielder Sam Wedgbury both having played for Wrexham AFC.
Worksop did the double over Bridlington last season, coming out 4-2 winners at The Windsor Foodservice Stadium, with Hardy netting a brace in that fixture. In the reverse fixture, Steven McDonnell scored the only goal of the game to ensure his side took all three points back to Worksop.
