There's a congested schedule for Bridlington Town, who now have four weeks of midweek fixtures, starting with a home game against Grimsby Borough tonight.
It’s been a good start to Mike Thompson’s second tenure as Bridlington manager, who has begun his reign with four home games.
Victories came in the first two games, 4-2 and 1-0 against Bishop Auckland and Sheffield FC, respectively. However, the Seasiders did suffer a 3-2 defeat in their most recent game against Garforth Town.
Michael Coulson had only scored three times before Thompson’s arrival, but has already matched that total in games under the new gaffer having scored the opening goal against Garforth.
However, the Seasiders conceded three goals in seven minutes and quickly found themselves 3-1 down.
Charlie Winfield netted an outstanding solo goal in the 89th minute, but the Seasiders were unable to find the leveller in stoppage time.
After the game, Thompson said:
“It’s an absolute barmy 10 minute spell. We said at half time, it isn’t a disrespectful thing to Garforth, they came here to spoil it a little bit, everything was slow, it didn’t really pay into our favour.
“I thought we had a lot of the ball, but we kind of didn’t make sure that we put the intensity into the game. Also, we can’t be losing from a great 10 minute spell.”
Grimsby Borough are the only team the Bridlington Town haven’t played at least one full game against. They did face each other on Boxing Day, though the game was abandoned just after half time due to fog, with the score at 0-0.
The last time the two teams played one another to a conclusion was in December 2023, when Bridlington won 1-0 in Lincolnshire, and drew 2-2 in the reverse fixture last campaign.
Following the abandonment, Grimsby Borough went on to beat local rivals Cleethorpes Town 1-0 on New Year’s Day.
They then lost 1-0 against Ashington AFC, before drawing their next two games 1-1 against Brighouse Town and Liversedge.
Tuesday’s game will be Grimsby’s first away from home since 21st December (excluding the Boxing Day abandoned game), as like the Seasiders, their first four games of 2025 have been at home.
Daniel Barrett’s side travel to the Mounting Systems Stadium occupying 12th position, whilst Bridlington dropped one place to 17th after Saturday’s loss.
