Bridlington Town produced a resilient and clinical away performance to secure a 2–0 victory over Garforth Town, with Ben Whelan scoring twice and Alex Baird saving a first half penalty.
In a competitive and often scrappy contest, clear chances were at a premium early on, with both sides probing without finding real rhythm. Garforth threatened first and were handed a major opportunity midway through the first half when the referee pointed to the spot. Baird, however, stood firm, diving to deny the penalty and keep the game goalless.
That moment shifted the momentum. The Seasiders grew into the half and found the breakthrough five minutes before the interval. A Hamza Hamdosh corner caused problems inside the box and Whelan reacted sharply at the back post to turn the ball home and give Bridlington a valuable lead heading into the break.
The hosts responded strongly after half time and applied sustained pressure, forcing Bridlington to defend deep for spells. Several dangerous deliveries flashed across the box, a header drifted wide from a corner, and the crossbar was rattled as Garforth searched for an equaliser.
Instead, it was Town who struck again. Just after the hour mark, a low free kick into the area by Hamdosh created confusion and Whelan was once again in the right place to guide the ball into the bottom corner and double the advantage.
From there, the Seasiders showed discipline and maturity to manage the game. Substitutions helped maintain energy levels, and despite Garforth continuing to commit bodies forward, Bridlington held firm to secure a clean sheet and an impressive three points on the road.
